Meet Mary Beth Westmoreland

Mary Beth Westmoreland brings over 30 years’ of experience in the fields of engineering and software development to her position as the Chief Technical Officer/Senior Vice President of Charleston, SC based Blackbaud.  After earning a degree in Mathematics/Physics at Immaculata University, she joined the staff at Westinghouse Savannah River Company as a programmer. By the end of her 12-year tenure with the company, she had managed their Enterprise and Technical Systems Engineering organizations.  She then went on to spend 7 years at Ipswitch with responsibility for global research and development and network management products.

Today, Mary Beth is a focused and direct, yet approachable leader.  She has been described as ‘…an incredible mix of technological know-how, vision and soft skills’.  In 2017, she was named one of the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Technology by the National Diversity Council.  She was recognized for her leadership in Blackbaud’s transformation to an innovative and agile cloud software company; for mentorship – inspiring other women, and for her commitment to corporate citizenship.

Beyond the scope of her activities at Blackbaud, Mary Beth is active in her local community supporting both tech and social justice initiatives.  She is a member of the board of trustees at her alma mater; and a member of the advisory board for the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences at Clemson University.  Mary Beth also functions as secretary of the board of directors of the South Carolina Chapter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation; and is an advisory board member of Charleston Women in Tech.  Additionally, she advocates for, and sponsors a variety of STEM programs, and Women in Technology initiatives.

Syntax Code & Craft Conference (SyntaxCon) is an application developer’s conference on current and emerging mobile, front-end, back-end, tools and platforms (game development, content management systems, cloud-hosted services and infrastructure) for both today’s and tomorrow’s enginerds.

This year’s schedule provides content across 3 main tracks, each with a specific focus:

  • Front-End Development
  • Back-End Development
  • Platforms (content management systems, cloud-hosted services, mobile applications and infrastructure.

Attendees can customize their personal agenda by choosing sessions with an aim to improve their craft, fulfill goals, and learn cutting edge trends and best practices in a relatively short time.
